Michael J. Barrington, Ph.DA passionate citizen of the world and an eternal optimist, Dr. Michael Barrington continuously travels the planet for both work and charitable explorations. He was born and raised in the United Kingdom and later spent 10 years serving the poor and sick people of Africa. Michael studied humanities at the University of Oxford, England followed by a ‘Diploma Especial’ in Spanish Studies from the Universidad Complutense in Madrid, Spain. He received a Master Degree in theology through the Gregorian University, Rome, Italy. Michael earned another Master’s Degree in Counseling/Psychology at InterAmerican University, Puerto Rico. Michael continued his education at the University of California, San Francisco, where he earned another Master Degree at UC San Francisco in Marriage, Family Child Counseling. Finally, he received a Ph.D. in what he calls ‘his business passion,” Organizational Management.

For more than 25 years, Michael has been a senior leader, educator, and therapist in the field of behavioral health. As President and Chief Executive Officer of Anka Behavioral Health, Inc. in Concord, CA, he has grown the company into a multi-million dollar enterprise with almost 1,000 employees that has been listed in Forbes Magazine and featured on National Televisions, “Champions of Industry.” More importantly he has successfully created unique and economic models of behavioral health programs that are now being replicated throughout California.

Deeply involved in helping the less fortunate, Michael volunteers his time as a Technical Advisor for Rotary International, applying his expertise in resolving issues in major humanitarian projects. Passionate about cultural immersion, driven by his deep belief in eliminating the stigma of people with a disability, and viewing the earth as a global village, he travels world-wide bringing much needed medical aide and support to people in some of the poorest countries. He can communicate well in four languages and is much sought after as an inspirational speaker on behavioral health issues, organizational management and international aid projects. mbarrington@ankabhi.org

Chris Withrow, BSW, CPHQMr. Chris Withrow, BSW, PT, CPHQ is Anka Behavioral Health Services Executive Vice President and Deputy Chief Executive Officer and has been in leadership roles in the behavioral health field for over 27 years. He has worked in private as well as public sector positions with a track record of success in building organizations, improving quality of care and productivity throughout his career. James Helming, BS AccountingWith almost twenty years in corporate America’s financial sector, James Helming has acquired broad-based financial skill sets and expertise necessary to support and guide Anka’s extensive growth. He directs a large department of professionals capable of managing multi-million dollar projects. We are fortunate to have a Chief Financial Officer who also has extensive knowledge of and hands on experience in technology and software accounting systems. Roberta Chambers, Psy.D.Roberta Chambers joined Anka Behavioral Health, Inc in 2005. As the Vice President of Development, Dr. Chambers facilitates Anka’s growth and expansion working with an interdisciplinary team to design new and innovative programs to meet customer and consumer needs while containing costs. Prior to joining Anka BHI, Dr. Chambers was the Clinical and Training Director at the California Autism Foundation. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies and Psychology from San Francisco State University and her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from John F. Kennedy University. Dr. Chambers has presented at the YAI International Conference on People with Disabilities (2007) and at the National Association of Dually Diagnosed (2009) on the Next Generation of Dual Diagnosis: a Functional Assessment of Drug and Alcohol Use in People with Intellectual Disabilities. rchambers@ankabhi.org
